Telenor optimises video with Skyfire

Norwegian operator group Telenor has struck a deal that will see it  using Skyfire’s video and internet optimisation technology across 11 countries.

Skyfire, a subsidiary of software developer Opera, will be the lead supplier for network-based mobile video and media optimisation for Telenor. The Skyfire win comes  as part of a wider deal the operator struck with kit vendor Alcatel Lucent.

The three year agreement sees Telenor installing Skyfire’s cloud media adaptation engine, Rocket Optimizer, in its own datacentres.

The solution aims to offer relief to users facing a poor quality of video experience, the firm added. The technology will be rolled out initially in selected Southeast Asian countries.
