Ericsson has announced it will be embarking on a transformative BSS project with T-Mobile Czech Republic.
The Swedish kit vendor has been selected as the prime systems integrator for T-Mobile, for which it will develop a charging and intelligence network transformation program. The project will involve a total replacement and modernisation of all T-Mobile’s billing systems, including real-time charging and intelligence network functions.
In its place will be a real-time convergent system across of business lines, a system which Ericsson is totally cloud-based. With the evolution to a cloud-native billing system, Ericsson claims the architecture becomes future proof and configurable with the ability to launch new services more effectively, with greater monetisation opportunities and a reduced total cost of ownership.
“We have an objective to consolidate, simplify and modernize our IT architecture ensuring we can continue offering our customers market-leading services with maximum speed and efficiency,” said VP of IT at T-Mobile Czech Republic Radek Moc.
In the Telecoms.com Intelligence Annual Industry Survey, 73% of 1,500 respondents said they believe all IT systems, BSS and billing included, will be in the cloud in the future as part of a wider transformation effort. Additionally, nearly three out of every four respondents believe they will have a cloud-based BSS infrastructure in place by the end of 2017, with a further 19% adding they will have done so by 2020. Given the attitudes of the majority of respondents, T-Mobile’s move to cloud-based BSS will be the first of many operator BSS transformation efforts in the near future.
