Nokia’s Nuage Networks scores Telefónica SD-WAN win

Nokia’s SDN venture Nuage Networks is celebrating a deal win with Spanish multinational operator Telefónica, to help it provide SD-WAN services to global enterprise customers.

SD-WAN is a relatively hot topic these days, with Cisco recently seeing fit to fork out $610 billion to acquire SD-WAN specialist Viptela. Telefónica apparently wants to offer its enterprise customers a creator ability to order and customise communications services through a self-service portal, which this sort of thing facilitates.

“To meet rapidly emerging business requirements for agility and on-demand deployments, we firmly moved to build our business connectivity services around a new Telco cloud-based architecture,” said Javier Gavilán, Technology Director at Telefonica Global CTO. “Nuage Networks provided us with a highly scalable SD-WAN architecture that could support all our services across all our regions without disruption.”

“The IT, communications and service demands of today’s enterprises are much higher than just a few years ago,” said Sunil Khandekar, CEO of Nuage Networks. “Companies require new cloud technologies to support them while simplifying traditional service models. We worked closely with Telefonica to ensure the Nuage Networks’ VNS solution addresses their new SD-WAN service requirements around the globe.”

This is the latest of a few nice wins for Nuage, having sealed deals with Vodafone and China Mobile earlier this year. The new SD-WAN service from Telefónica will be launched in Spain later this year and followed at some unspecified later date by an international roll-out.
