TM Forum launches app designed to help CSPs with their digital transformation

Industry collaboration group TM Forum used its TM Forum Live 2017 event to unveil an app called Digital Maturity Model that aims to facilitate the process of digital transformation.

The concept of digital transformation was also the underlying theme of the morning’s keynotes, with all the familiar mantras about the need for operators to fundamentally change the way they go about their business in frequent use. It is generally accepted that they need a step change in terms of the speed and agility of their operations if they’re going to thrive.

While there a lots of technological factors in this process it’s as much a cultural challenge as anything, with the need to resolve human concerns paramount. This launch seems designed to help operators with the cultural side of things by helping establish goals, coordinate across companies, measure progress, etc.

“In order to survive and thrive in the digital market, service providers are embarking on complex and demanding digital transformation journeys,” said Nik Willetts, CEO of TM Forum. “To be successful, these transformation programs require much more than embracing new technologies or ways to interact with our customers – they demand strong leadership and holistic transformation of the entire business, fundamentally redefining how the business operates.”

As is generally the case with TM Forum initiatives, this is the product of a collaboration between a number of industry players, including: BT, China Mobile, Orange, Vodafone, Amdocs, Huawei, and Tata Consultancy Services.

A major underlying theme of the whole event has been the need for collaboration across the whole industry to address the mind-bogglingly complicated challenges it faces. Such is the breadth of these challenges that multiple collaboration bodies arte involved, including standards groups and various representations of the open source community. TM Forum seems to be expanding its traditional BSS/OSS focus to reflect this and the Digital Maturity Model is a manifestation of that.
