Broadcom still after Qualcomm

Just when it looked like Broadcom and Qualcomm were getting around to burying the hatchet, Broadcom has reportedly gone before the US International Trade Commission (ITC) and called for a ban on US handset imports using Qualcomm chips.

Broadcom is asking the ITC to block imports of handsets using Qualcomm EV-DO and WCDMA chipsets.

Broadcom alleges that Qualcomm has infringed upon its technology for conserving battery power in mobile devices.

The ITC will complete its investigation in early May.

Just last week, Qualcomm agreed to dismiss its cases against Broadcom over claims of patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation.

In turn, Broadcom dismissed its counterclaims against Qualcomm in those particular cases but Broadcom’s patent infringement claim and antitrust claim were not affected by the dismissals.
