Despite revealing its Stafish application at the CeBit technology show this week, UK operator Vodafone has no intention of putting any VoIP functionality on its phones.

Speaking to Telecoms.com Friday, a spokeswoman said that Starfish – a launch application embedded into a mobile’s operating system to make software like Skype and Messenger easier to use – was “only being tested in Germany”.

Asked why the company was not offering Skype or any other form of VoIP to its customers even after Hutchison’s 3 has been doing so for almost four months, the spokeswoman explained: “It’s simply because we haven’t tested the technology yet. Our position on VoIP is that it needs to be properly tested and right now those tests are being carried out in Germany.”
