An intelligent optical distribution network (iODN) has been successfully deployed for the Russian telco Rostelecom, marking the first such deployment and bringing improved services to experiences to its broadband subscribers.

The iODN has been deployed by Chinese firm Huawei in Perm Krai and enhances utilisation of the fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network that Rostelecom is building through electronic and transparent resource management.

The solution also supports real-time monitoring of network construction progress and resilient adjustment of fibre links, enabling fast service provisioning.

A multi-level link-quality-assurance mechanism has been introduced to enhance network reliability and simplify operation and maintenance, allowing for real-time monitoring of link quality and fast fault diagnosis.

“The iODU network deployed by Huawei is great. It simplifies the O&M of fibre networks, helping us deliver high-quality services and lower O&M costs,” said Korolev K.G., CTO of Rostelecom’s Perm branch.
