Telus pulls out of porn market

Canada’s second placed mobile operator, Telus Mobility, has been forced to put the lid on its adult content services after firm condemnation from the Catholic church.

Archbishop Raymond Roussin of the Archdiocese of Vancouver, called for Catholics to hang up their Telus subscriptions earlier this week, in protest and “general frustration with the lack of ethical leadership from the company.”

“Such are the profits in this sector of the market that mobile phone companies are willing to take great risk to their image,” he said. “The capability of existing systems and equipment [to protect unwary viewers] is not an answer.I am directing Catholics to not renew their subscriptions,” said Roussin.

Reports suggest that the request struck such a chord that Telus had no option but to put the service to bed.
