Ruckus wins over operators

Champions of the home wireless network, Ruckus Wireless, said on Monday that it has now shipped over 100,000 MediaFlex units to around 125 broadband operators around the world.

Ruckus is in the business of “smart wifi”, using a proprietary smart antenna technology called BeamFlex to steer wifi signals around interference, so picking the best path through the air for traffic.

What this professes to deliver to the consumer is glitch free streaming of IP-based video, voice and data over standard 802.11g around the home.

Ruckus is targeting multi-play operators with its product, with service providers deploying the kit as part of their package to wirelessly network the home.

Selina Lo, president and CEO of Ruckus Wireless said “We believe that wifi will cover the globe, letting consumers access any content type anywhere, any time. We saw the need to make this free medium as reliable and industrial strength as cellular networks.

“We believe what’s happening in Europe and Asia Pacific is the tip of the iceberg and a harbinger of what we’ll see in an even bigger way in North America in 2007 and 2008,” Lo said.
