2014 Forward features for Mobile Communications International magazine
The February issue of Mobile Communications International will showcase the results of the 2014 Telecoms.com Intelligence Global Industry Survey. Topics include Big Data, Operators and OTTs, wifi, BSS/OSS and the wider industry landscape. The 2013 survey results, based on the responses of almost 2,000 industry executives, including more than 600 operators, were a talking point throughout the industry and the 2014 survey promises to be every bit as contentious, insightful and educational.
In 2013 we saw a number of in-market consolidation moves as operators changed the focus of their M&A from international expansion to multi play offerings. Fixed broadband and Pay-TV bundles can be extremely sticky and, as consumers increasingly demand the ability to access the same content on multiple platforms that exploit a range of delivery mechanisms, operators with assets across the board could be well positioned to strengthen their position in the market in terms of both revenues and customer retention. This issue will look at some of the most advanced multiplay offerings and the benefits that operators are deriving. It will also look at some of the technology and content strategies behind these offerings, and the impact these are having on the wider connected home movement.
