Preparing Transport Networks for 5G

Speed instrument in blue reaching maximum 5G communication speed

Emerging 5G services pose new and challenging requirements for transport networks.  Addressing them necessitates a new split of functions in radio access networks. CPRI/eCPRI, IEEE, and xRAN are among the organizations that have come up with new standards to design and characterize the new functional splits.

This white paper outlines the new requirements and challenges of current transport technologies and discusses the split options and related service level agreements.
