Caio Bonilha, President and CEO, Telebras, Brazil

Caio Bonilha, President and CEO, Telebras, Brazil is taking part in a panel discussion on the advantages of SDN and OpenFlow on Day One of the Broadband World Forum, taking place on the 22nd – 24th October 2013 at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre, Amsterdam. Ahead of the show we speak to him about his role, and where telcos fit in the cloud services arena.

What drives you on a day-to-day basis in your role as head of Telebras?

I would say my two main drivers are to create value for shareholders in any decision making process and at the same time observe the rules of GRC (Governance, Risk Management and Compliance).

What would you fundamentally like to change about the broadband industry if you could?

The relationships between the industry players. Today, there is an unbalanced relationship between content providers and telco providers. We are working hard to solve this puzzle.

How can you convince enterprises that telcos are really the best place to come for cloud services?

The telecom industry is proven as a reliable and cost-effective service provider and there is no doubt that it´s capable of extending this reliability to cloud services.

What impact will SDN and OpenFlow have on cloud computing?

We expect these technologies to increase operational efficiency and have a direct impact in delivering more cost-effective and reliable cloud services.

What are your personal current favourites in terms of smartphones and tablet devices?

Personally, I’m an Android man.

What are you most looking forward to by attending the Broadband World Forum?

The exchange of ideas and discussions with telecom experts on important subjects such as SDN, CDN and cloud computing.

The Broadband World Forum is taking place on the 22nd – 24th October 2013 at the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre, Amsterdam. Click here to download a brochure for the event and register for your Conference Pass.
