Rima Qureshi to lead Ericsson strategy

Ericsson has announced Rima Qureshi, a 20-year veteran of the company, as its new chief strategy officer, following the resignation of Doug Gilstrap earlier in April. Gilstrap joined Ericsson in 2009.

Ericsson restructures Networks unit for virtualization push

Swedish vendor Ericsson has reorganized its networks division, splitting it into two new business units; Radio and Cloud & IP. The Cloud & IP unit will drive Ericsson’s work on virtualization, an area in which the firm has ground to make up on its competitors. Executive VPJohan Wibergh will continue to lead the Networks segment, although Ericsson has yet to name the heads of the two new business units.

Ericsson improves profit despite drop in sales

Leading infrastructure and solutions vendor Ericsson has reported a 38 per cent increase in net profit year on year for the third quarter of 2013, despite sales dropping by three per cent on the same period in 2012. Profit for the quarter stood at SEK3bn ($472m), while sales were at SEK53bn.

Ericsson and Telstra in LTE Broadcast trial

Australia’s leading telecoms operator Telstra has signed an extension of its partnership with Swedish vendor Ericsson that will see the two collaborate on the expansion of Telstra’s LTE network. In a briefing at Mobile World Congress on Monday the firms’ CEOs, David Thodey and Hans Vestberg signed a three-year expansion contract that Thodey described as “another multi-billion dollar deal”.

Ericsson buys Telcordia for $1.15bn

Ericsson has announced its purchase of OSS/BSS giant Telcordia in a $1.15bn all cash deal. Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg said the deal reflected the growing importance of operations and business support systems in an environment where “more and more devices are connected, services become mobile and new business models for mobile broadband are introduced.”
