Huawei and HKT claim 440Mbps LTE-A live test

HKT, the mobile subsidiary of telco PCCW, has announced the successful live testing of LTE-A carrier aggregation (CA) alongside Huawei. The telco claims to have achieved peak download rate speeds of 440Mbps.

Asian operators form NFC alliance

Four Asian mobile operators have teamed up to form an alliance to accelerate the adoption of NFC technology worldwide. Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom, Hong Kong’s HKT, Japan’s KDDI and SK Planet, a wholly owned subsidiary of South Korea’s SK Telecom announced the formation of the Asia NFC Alliance with the support of trade association GSMA at Mobile World Congress.

UK sees surprise 4G bidders

Seven firms have qualified to bid in the UK’s 4G spectrum auction, including three new entrants. Joining EE, 3UK, O2 and Vodafone are HKT – a subsidiary of PCCW; MLL Telecom; and Niche Spectrum Ventures – a subsidiary of BT.
