Nokia, Coriant claim first mobile backhaul SON solution

Finnish kit vendor and optical networking specialist Coriant have announced what they claimed is the first ever solution brining self-organising network (SON) technology to mobile backhaul. Nokia claimed the solution’s proof of concept shows the same level of functionality but with 20% less transport infrastructure than in current networks.

Ericsson to help Telstra introduce SDN, NFV

In a bid to support more cloud and digital services Telstra announced that it is working with telecoms equipment vendor Ericsson to introduce software defined networking and network function virtualisation into the telco’s network.

Alcatel, Fujitsu join AT&T’s cloud-focused network architecture effort

Alcatel-Lucent and the networking communications arm of Fujitsu have joined AT&T’s ‘User-Defined Network Cloud’ programme, the telco’s bid to rearchitect its core network in a move that will make it more elastic, scalable, and capable of handling massive volumes of IP-based traffic.

Brocade goes after carrier virtualization

Networking specialist Brocade has unveiled a virtualization platform aimed squarely at the cloud and telecommunications service providers sector. Brocade said that its Vyatta platform is the first phase of a multi-year strategy embracing the requirements outlined within the ETSI Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) ISG, and those set out in open source software projects such as OpenDaylight and OpenStack, the company said.
