Getting ahead in an LTE World

Operators around the world are facing tremendous challenges in terms of growth in data traffic, operational efficiency and customer experience. In order to address these demands, further attention and financial investment are being directed to the upgrade of existing network infrastructure-and with peak download speeds of 100Mbps and above being promised, LTE has been widely hailed as the solution to operators’ congestion troubles.

Protecting your Customer Base by Ensuring the Best Customer Experience

The Telecom environment is ever changing. Demand for smartphones and tablets continues to increase, more people become more mobile and telecom service providers are under pressure to grow revenue, customers and market share. This whitepaper will explore the changing landscape for devices and platforms, the evolution of support desk metrics from efficiency measurements to customer satisfaction ratings, and how incorporating remote support tools into a telecommunications organisation can improve the customer experience and increase customer satisfaction.

Network 4 Profitable Connectivity

This paper describes why it is important for network operators to adopt a new approach to network design, what the networks must achieve in terms of their key operational characteristics and how certain design principles can be applied to fulfill these objectives.

Next Generation Optical Fibre: Making Your Broadband Network Go Further

Published by Corning

As a recent blockbuster video on YouTube called “A Day of Glass” demonstrates, with the inventive pace of communications technology these days, it is realistic to foresee a world where even the most humble of appliances in our homes and at work, like fridges and desktops, are fully connected and enabled as video and voice interactive devices. It is easy to see that such a world would require an unimaginable amount of bandwidth. The millions of hits that this video has had indicate a real world interest in a future that is so technology and telecoms enabled, and thus offers an explanation for, and a justification for supporting, the incessantly increasing consumer demand for bandwidth in telecoms networks of today.

MessagePhone: adding value to users & operators in emerging markets

SPONSORED BY Synchronica plc

This white paper examines the MessagePhone and provides an analysis of how the device will be
positioned to meet the particular needs of emerging markets. The device is being launched at a
time when mobile network operators face new levels of competitive intensity and continue to
battle against rising churn rates. Throughout this paper we refer to Africa and Latin America as
examples of the MessagePhone’s target markets, although the device would also be appropriate
for parts of the Asia Pacific and Eastern Europe regions.

Multi Vendor Network Parameter Management

Published by Aexio

Radio Network quality in a cellular network can be used as a barometer to gauge the overall quality of a network. This is in a large part due to the fact that the mobile network’s quality is dominated by a substantial number of environmental factors. By tracking a few key performance indicators (KPIs) in the radio network, call quality and subscribers’ perception of the quality of the network can be monitored. These KPI include, for example, blocked calls, dropped calls, voice quality and throughput.

UK mobile broadband measurements

Sponsored by Bytemobile

An extensive measurement campaign was carried out between June and August 2009 to assess the effect of mobile broadband optimisation on Internet access through notebook/netbook computers. Measurements were performed in and around London on all UK mobile networks offering mobile broadband products and conducted so that the results were comparable, regardless of the surrounding environment and traffic in the measured cell.

10G EPON – Unleashing the Bandwith Potential

Published by ZTE

For the first time in history, we can now aim to live in “One World”, because the 1st century has ushered in a new era in man’s ongoing quest for a better life and a better world. Telco industry is passing through a phase of multiservice revolution, with a shift from legacy to next generation networks and the introduction of new and advanced services (e.g. DTV, HDTV, IPTV, VoIP, WiMAX, Mobile TV, etc.). More and more service providers are progressing to triple-play and even quad-play packages in order to provide a one-stop shopping service to customers. IP traffic is growing exponentially and networks evolve to include bandwidth hungry IP-based applications on voice, video and data. A discussion about broadband medium and speed is on everyone’s tongue. But still it is under discussion that “how fast is fast enough”. In fact, broadband is not just a speed it is defined as a potential medium that offers a wide variety of applications to users at their premises. This white paper provides a detailed tutorial overview of the IEEE 802.3av 10Gbit/s Ethernet PON (10G EPON) market trends that are driving the requirement of future last mile access networks, standardization advancements, technology infrastructure.

LTE performance for initial deployments

Published by Nokia Siemens Networks

LTE (Long Term Evolution) and SAE (System Architecture Evolution) are on the way. The question is now about when, where and how LTE/SAE will arrive. Regardless of what motivates each operator to make the transition, it is essential to demonstrate the stability and performance of the new systems at an early stage in order to promote the smooth and cost-efficient introduction and deployment of LTE/SAE technology. This is true both within companies and as part of wider, coordinated efforts towards interoperability. Since the 3GPP specifications are now reasonably well defined and stable, the time is right to evaluate performance and to publish the most interesting results.
