US vendor Motorola shifted its fixed wireless portfolio into the 5.4GHz spectrum with the launch of its Moto wi4 canopy point to multipoint (PMP) and point to point (PTP) platform in the US and Canada on Monday.

US regulator, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) recently opened the 5.4 GHz frequency up for commercial use, making more spectrum available to meet growing demands for bandwidth.

The 5.4 GHz spectrum offers 255MHz of bandwidth, double that available in the 5.8GHz band. This allows for the co-location of multiple radios on one rooftop or location with minimal interference, simplifying overall network design, Motorola said.
