Rightsourcing: Staying in Control of an Outsourced World

    Hi Neil,
    There is an enormous amount of monitoring data flowing out of the network these days, from switches, probes, even user equipment – can NSM really make sense of that volume of data?

      Yes this was one of the key challenges we faced 3 years ago when when we started rolling Network Status Management solutions out.

      We undertook extensive scalability testing and performance tuning in partnership with HP – where we tested our software handling the data volumes from a very large (150,000 sector) network. Since then we have a number of very large deployments handling 30 TB plus data volumes.

        Hi Neil,
        The technical solution of NSM seems to be rather interesting, however what about the financial side. What would be the ROI for integration of this kind of system? Financial effectiveness would be a core issue for the companies to implement the NSM.

          Hi Dimitri, The Oliver Wyman report that we reference indicates an ROI multiple of 9.1 and we expect the return on investment will happen in year one. We’d be happy to run through the financial model we use in more detail if required.

    Hi Neil,

    Outsourcing offers 20% or more on day 1 – not after 1 year!
    And NSM seems to depend on your calculation that Planning and Optimisation is 33% of OpEx. This sounds very high.

      Hi Dave,

      I totally agree with your comment.
      Especially when calculating the NPV (Net Present Value) the saving of 20% in year 1 makes oursourcing very interesting.
      This initial saving even overcomes the drawback of missed saving in the last years – assuming you would have continuously optimised and operated the network on your own.

      Hi Dave, Good comment. The title of the webinar was Rightsourcing. Actix is advocating operators take a balanced approach blending Network Status Management with outsourcing/out tasking to get the right mix of between cost reduction, visibility and control.
      We believe the financial models we refer to in our slides reflect accurately the quantitative benefits of each approach and we’d be happy to go through in more detail with operators interested in Rightsourcing.
      The structuring of the outsourcing contracts vary from customer to customer but the actual outsourcing process itself (decision, tender, etc) can take operators quite a while to execute on – time which can be used to pursue complimentary initiatives

    Working for a big operator group either Actix or similar tools are in place, already. I doubt somebody would invest in new tools before looking at oursourcing. In fact outsourcing is one way to avoid implementing the whole tool chain required. Please comment

      Hopefully this came across in the Webinar but Network Status Management is not a re-branding of existing tools already found in operators. The RAN tool space is very fragmented, we’ve seen audits from a number of operators all indicating 100+ point tools used within their organizations. NSM is not about replacing these on a tool by tool basis it is more about delivering OSS style platforms that support key activities.
