The GSMA hopes to boost the M2M market

Telekom Austria has launched an M2M application enablement platform for remote monitoring, automation and control for metering devices. The platform follows the launch earlier this year of Telekom Austria’s M2M connectivity platform SIMplify.

The application platform, dubbed FLEXify, aims to facilitate remote data monitoring and control of devices in industries such as energy, plant construction and water management, where such processes are necessary on a daily basis.

Measurement data is recorded by sensors and transferred to a central IT system which receives the data, saves it and visualises it for further processing. Processes can be monitored, automated and controlled actively, said the operator. These controlled operations save time and money and protect from consequential damages, it added.

The operator added that one of the platform’s practical fields of application is an early-warning system for flooding.

“M2M solutions for the optimisation of products and processes are being seen as offering competitive advantage by more and more companies,” said Bernd Liebscher, CEO of Telekom Austria’s M2M unit. “With FLEXify, we allow our customers to start with a flexible and cost effective hosted system without large development efforts or investments risks.”

The operator partnered with the Austrian M2M solutions provider Microtronics Engineering to offer an integrated solution. Hans-Peter Buber, CEO at Microtronics, explained that business customers can “use the configurable solutions or request a customer specific application which can be developed within a couple of days”.
