Nordic LTE champion TeliaSonera has successfully launched commercial 4G services in Sweden’s second largest city, Gothenburg.

According to the carrier, Telia subscribers are enjoying peak rates of up to 100Mbps and high end services such as streaming TV and data downloads, with average downlink rates of 85-90Mbps and an uplink of 30Mbps.

TeliaSonera is no stranger to the limelight, having blazed a trail with its commercial LTE deployments. But the firm has also caused a stir by calling trials of the technology “unnecessary” and claiming that the only differentiator vendors have to compete on is price. Telecoms.com recently caught up with Tommy Ljunggren, SVP and head of system development, mobility services at TeliaSonera to get more of his thoughts following the commercial launches of the technology in Sweden and Norway.

Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) provided its radio equipment for the operator’s LTE roll out in the city and during 2010 will participate in deployments in Sweden’s 25 largest cities.
