Deutsche Telekom launches pan-European strategy

Deutsche Telekom has announced alternative plans for multinational network operations, centralising production of specific functions and services at specialist sites within its footprint.

To date, each operating company develops and manages its own services within its own territory, though by opening a new production centre in Budapest the team are aiming for what it describes as a “truly pan-European production model and a suitable infrastructure”.

Budapest is only the first step on the road, as the team plan for two more production centres in Poland and Greece in 2017. The three assets will form the backbone of the company’s infrastructure, and the Budapest site should be fully operational and ready to run the first services for all European subsidiaries by the end of 2016, Deutsche Telekom claims.

“Within the pan-European network, individual services like SMS, voicemail or E-Mail will be provided for all countries in the form of product building-block modules,” the company said in a statement. “Each country can put these building blocks together in ways that result in offerings which address the demands of the local markets.”

“Furthermore, this new structure will enable Deutsche Telekom to offer newly developed services throughout Europe within just a few days.”

The long-term plan is to create a menu in which each country can choice its own modules when building a portfolio. The company believes the new approach will allow the national business to remain competitive, whilst also leveraging synergies throughout Europe on group-level.

The new infrastructure has been under the management of a new business unit, Deutsche Telekom Pan-Net, which has been in operation since May last year. Deutsche Telekom Pan-Net will now take the lead for numerous areas of the new organization, including negotiations with IT and NT vendors for the whole group.
