Sweden decides to delay 5G spectrum allocation

The Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS) has announced it will delay the allocation of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz and 2.3 GHz bands due to a security review.

The 3.5 GHz and 2.3 GHz bands spectrum bands are two of the most attractive when it comes to rolling out 5G services, blending together a palatable compromise between increased download speeds and coverage. These spectrum auctions have proven to be some of the most interesting, though the delay will be an irritant for the ambitious telcos.

Pointing towards new security implications introduced in the country’s electronic communications law (PLAY), which will be implemented on January 1, 2020, the regulator feels it needs more time to continue discussions with police and security agencies. Details are thin on the ground for the moment, though this is hardly going to be viewed as a plus at the telcos who have been demanding more spectrum be released.

In June, progress looked to be gathering momentum as PTS announced a public consultation to release spectrum in the 3.5 GHz and 2.3 GHz bands. 15 national blocks of at least 20 MHz in the 3.4 GHz-3.7 GHz band were set to be auctioned, as well as up to eight 10 MHz nationwide licences at 2.3GHz. The auction was likely to take place in the early part of 2020, though these plans have now been side-lined.

Sweden is not in a unique position when it comes to a need to free-up valuable spectrum assets, though that will come as little comfort to those who were gearing-up for an auction in the coming months. Reviews like this create a sense of uncertainty in the minds of the telcos, and uncertainty is the enemy of investment. You only have to look at the UK for evidence of this.

Thanks to the creation of the Supply Chain Review, the position of Huawei is still an on-going unknown. This has led the telcos to falter with deployment plans. Unless Sweden want to encounter the same problems, such a security review will have to be completed incredibly quickly. Obligations and conditions will have to be considered and relevant, as the last thing anyone will want is protest from industry, further delaying the critical element of certainty.

Many will hope such a security review does not enter the country into the same purgatory which the UK finds itself in with the Supply Chain Review, but it would surprise few if it did.

Gary G. Kohls, MD I have been trying to link that article to people. One guy told me it has nothing to do with contagious virus…. I told him people are getting sick from 5G and they are calling it Coronavirus to create a crisis they can use. Just look at a list of hardest hit countries, they are all developed, 1st world countries, and they all are building new networks. Even Iran is building a new “4.5 G” system. Switzerland band any new 5G installations back in November for health concerns. They already had built and released some 5G.

Yes New York went crazy in setting up 5g transmitters
Taiwan amazingly has next to no cases ( even though massive contact with Wuhan ) and they have no 5 g . Everything seems to follow this pattern .
Italy mainly introduced 5g in the 3 main cities in the north where the outbreak was so immense.
    Look for yourself.

Picking the points that try to prove you statements what a surprise. 5g has been rolled out across 50 Chinese cities inclusive of Beijing and the mobile operators are already offering 5g plans to consumers. Beijing has next to no cases of corona virus. It is not at all surprising that you avoid those facts with your crack pot theories

News from China is heavily controlled. It all depends on whether you want to listen to scientists from around the world who have clearly stated that even 3G and 4G damage the Human DNA leave alone 5G which KILLS people. Looks like you prefer the response given by businessmen in suits. And that’s your choice. I stick to broadband at 3G which is fast enough and also limit internet use to a couple of hours per day and that works well for me. We are hooked onto internet and so telecom companies are now on steroids dumping their Gs on us without approval from truthful independent scientists. Eventually they will come to their senses for a world full of sick people or dead people will not serve their purpose of carrying on business as usual. And having to live in a dangerous environment means they will eventually get very sick or drop dead too unless they live in bubbles out of Space. So let’s hope good sense will prevail in the long run

    Yes. Covid 19 = Covid 5G satellite technology !!

Cona-virus doesn’t exist. It is the 5 satellites and transmitters that are killing the people world wide.

Sweden is a very country, delaying 5G is saving people’s lives.

5G technology carries massive atomic radiations. These radiations are airborne and randomly frying the people’s blood oxygen and their entire immune system.

They called it corona-virus just to create a crisis under the New World Order of the 1% Corporate Elite and to depopulate humanity with fake massive poisonous vaccination. Bill Gates and Pope Francis are enemies number one of our World.
