Ericsson hits the big one zero zero 5G deals

Ericsson is celebrating its 100th commercial 5G agreement after signing on Telekom Slovenije.

The deal was officially signed on July 16, with work on the new 5G deployments starting within a week. As part of the agreement, Ericsson will provide with Telekom Slovenije and Packet Core solutions.

“Upgrading existing our 4G networks to 5G puts Slovenia on the map of the most digitally advanced countries,” said Matjaž Beričič, CTO of Telekom Slovenije.

“With opportunities for new ICT solutions, services and business models, we have started an evolutionary upgrade of existing mobile technology based on secure standards that we have mastered with our business partners and providers like Ericsson. We shall continue upgrading our 4G/5G network to benefit everyone in Slovenia.”

Initial 5G services in the country will cover the major cities in Slovenia, aiming for 25% coverage before targeting 33% by the end of the year. Aside from being a useful Bunsen Burner this is also the 100-deal milestone for Ericsson.

“Our customers’ needs have been central to the development and evolution of Ericsson’s 5G technology across our portfolio from the very beginning,” said CEO Börje Ekholm.

“We are proud that this commitment has resulted in 100 unique communications service providers globally selecting our technology to drive their 5G success ambitions. We continue to put our customers center stage to help them deliver the benefits of 5G to their subscribers, industry, society and countries as a critical national infrastructure.”

With 56 live networks spanning five continents, Ericsson certainly has come a long way since the first public 5G announcement in 2014, and with one of its major rivals in hot water, the future still looks very bright for the Swedes.
