100 million S60 devices shifted

Finnish handset vendor Nokia said Wednesday that 100 million Symbian S60 devices have been shipped by licensees to date.

“This announcement represents a significant landmark for S60. We believe it inspires further innovation on S60. The open platform gives mobile users more choice and provides a platform upon which new applications and services can be built”, said Matti Vanska, vice president of mobile software sales and marketing at Nokia.

Symbian recently introduced the S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2, which brings Open C and the standard C function libraries to S60 software.

Last week, S60 became the first mobile software platform with integrated widget support, bringing a more personalised web experience to the phone.

To date, 57 devices based on S60 and Symbian OS have been launched, 28 of which are based on the latest S60 3rd Edition.
