Users connecting their Apple iPhone 3Gs up to iTunes on Tuesday will discover yet another software update waiting for them.

In Apple’s now familiar vague descriptions of iPhone updates, the latest 248MB download claims to contain “bug fixes” and will take the firmware up to version 2.0.2.

Many users hope these bug fixes are for the well documented 3G connectivity issues which have accompanied the launch of the 3G version of the device. Unfortunately, the early feedback peppering the iPhone user forums doesn’t suggest this is the case.

Some users on the official Apple iPhone forum are reporting improved connectivity after installing the update, but others are reporting the same or even worse problems. Speculation at the moment is that if the problem is with the code controlling the Infineon baseband processor, it may take longer to prepare a fix and the update released this week is more of a token gesture.
