802.11n clears another hurdle

The latest incarnation of the wifi platform, 802.11n, is on something of a roll at the moment, after the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) working group this week unanimously approved draft 2.0 of the specification.

Following early rumours of in-fighting and failed ballots, the draft specification has leapt from version 1.10 to version 2.0 in less than two months.

Now the technology is all but set and the road to version 3.0 and final sign off looks pretty clear. However, the few minor revisions are expected to mean draft 3.0 is due around year end with final approval in 2008.

All going well, the standard should be published in early 2009.
