Ericsson bolsters multimedia strategy with Mobeon

Swedish equipment manufacturer, Ericsson, said Thursday it had bought IP messaging firm Mobeon for an undisclosed sum, in order to strengthen its multimedia strategy.

Ericsson already owned 21 per cent of the company, said Mobeon is the world leader in IP-messaging components for mobile and fixed networks.

Mobeon produces components for Ericsson’s Messaging over IP (MoIP) product – an IP-based voice and video mail solution for operators.

In a statement Ericsson said: “This deal represents yet another step in Ericsson’s strategy to become the leader in multimedia.”

Mobeon has 130 staff in Sweden and Britain.
