Samsung gets NYC WiMAX contract

US carrier and WiMAX proponent Sprint awarded the coveted New York WiMAX contract to Samsung earlier this week.

Phil Solis, principal analyst for mobile broadband at ABI Research said that it made sense for Samsung to be awarded New York, “given that this city is in the middle of a nice line up of cities that make up the Northeast corridor – Washington, DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Providence, RI, and Boston.”

Sprint’s New York market consists of more than 10 million people living in the five boroughs as well as many suburbs too.

These suburbs expand the number of people covered to about 17 million. The New York market will be rolled out during the fourth quarter of next year.
