NEC and ArrayComm form WiMAX partnership

NEC and ArrayComm have entered into a partnership to develop new WiMAX products.

The joint effort is slated to deliver WiMAX base station beginning mid-2009. The products will include WiMAX Forum IO-MIMO and upcoming IO-Beamforming capability.

ArrayComm brings to the table its A-MASTM multi-antenna signal processing software. NEC contributes with its PasoWings WiMAX base station. With the established PasoWings platform, NEC says it can provide development, manufacturing, system integration, and field installation expertise into the joint effort.

“The collaboration with ArrayComm, a global leading provider of MAS software solutions, is essential in enhancing NEC’s WiMAX base station products, which offer improved radio network economics to mobile operators around the world,” says K. Jay Miyahara, chief engineer in the mobile network operations unit of NEC.

“NEC’s clear leadership, experience and leading edge PasoWings product line create a significant opportunity for both companies,” adds Bruce Duysen, president of ArrayComm. “Furthermore, NEC’s modularised software and hardware development approach has made the integration of our A-MASTM software very straightforward.”
