Mobile World Congress 2023: Huawei Product & Solution Launch

At Huawei’s Product and Solutions Launch on Day 1 of Mobile World Congress 2023 in Barcelona, Jacqueline Shi, President of Huawei Cloud Global Marketing and Sales Service presented a series of new products and solutions.

Shi addressed the audience in a keynote speech giving an update on the latest progress from Huawei Cloud, with a focus on reliable sustainable and secure services. Having entered the Gartner Magic Quadrant, Huawei Cloud has been able to maintain its rapid growth over the past year for its cloud infrastructure and platform services, Shi said.

With Huawei Cloud widely adopted globally, the vendor showcased more than 700 e-government cloud services as well as more than 300 services in fintech, more than 60 customers in the automobile sectors, and many other verticals around the world. Reportedly, it also now serves more than 120 operator customers globally, supporting on internal IT, billing, and providing operational support. Further, to better serve their customers where they are located, this year the vendor will also expand its cloud regional centres.

With its Everything as a Service strategy released in 2021 now fully in practice, the vendor stated it’s been working closely with operators on data centres and network resources through its Infrastructure as a Service product. Its KooVerse global cloud infrastructure now delivers to worldwide customers at a 50-millisecond latency.

In terms of innovations and its “Technology as a Service” strategy, the vendor reported not only has Huawei Cloud enabled new services in areas such as data, AI, media, “but also [we] pack these innovations into four pipelines for software development, AI development, data governance, and digital content production. Carriers quickly access new technical capabilities through these pipelines for faster application modernization.” said the President.

Shi also spoke about “Expertise as a Service” sharing “we open up Huawei’s technologies and experience in ICT over the past 30 years, as well as the best practices of our partners. We provide them as cloud services for easy access by carriers, which is the expertise carriers need to explore the enterprise market.”

With the goal to continually taking cloud-native to the next level for its customers, Huawei Cloud also released a new service branded the Cloud Container Instance (CCI). This is a serverless container service which relieves users from concerns about any underlying container resource management, no matter where it may be located.

Meanwhile, to assist operators migrate large enterprises to the cloud, Huawei also launched a product branded “Landing Zone” which provides cloud resource management and access control capabilities, mapping to the business architecture of large enterprises. This service is a one-stop cloud solution, delivering business consulting, architecture design, cloud services, and professional migration services. The solution promises around 80% more cloud migration efficiency and around 60% more resource utilization.

The vendor also launched three new data and analytics products. The GaussDB, with an EAL4+ certification, supports transactional data processing with “highest security level in industry”. Further, DWS (real-time data warehouse), realizes data analysis on production, enabling better transparency and higher efficiency for business management. Finally, the MRS (real-time data lake), enables customers to access, update, and process large data sets rapidly, with a typical use case looking at user churn and their retention.

On Artificial Intelligence (AI), the vendor presented its Pangu AI models. These are industry specific pre-trained foundation models with hundreds of billions of parameters, not only for the use of operators but also to enable expanding industry customers. Available in more than 10 industries including healthcare, electricity, finance, governments, and coal industries.

There was of course also an announcement related to the Metaverse and the Huawei Cloud virtual human service. Build in collaboration with partners, the virtual human combines cloud and AI with partners’ virtual human design capabilities for faster content production. Shi said “our virtual human service has been used extensively in more than 50 projects across over 10 industries. We built a digital icon, Joy-E, for China Mobile Hong Kong. And there is more to it. Virtual humans will provide services in the carrier’s self-service customer centres.”

Finally, in expanding enterprise solutions two new product packages were launched: the SaaS Package which is a one-stop solution to help small- and medium-sized enterprises quickly migrate to the cloud. Secondly, the Cloud on Cloud solution, which is a product that enables carriers to quickly obtain Huawei Cloud capabilities through resale, dual brands, or self-built brands. Customers can build and operate their own cloud services based on Huawei Cloud.

When asked about its market progress and the results achieved to date, Huawei Cloud’s Shi highlighted three key points they have been focusing on: continuous innovation, developing an ecosystem around the world, and providing local services. These were also echoed in several of the new announcements that were unleashed.
