New solution provides real time information on network impact of individual applications

Stockholm, Sweden, 20 February 2014 – Polystar, a leading supplier of Network and Customer Analytics, Network Monitoring and Test solutions for the telecom market, today announced the launch of ‘Application Recognition Monitoring’ – a new solution within its mobile data monitoring suite of applications for Telco Network and Service Engineering. The latest product – part of its Network Insights solution – delivers comprehensive, Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) powered real-time information about the usage and performance of applications on a network level.

Application Recognition Monitoring equips operators with the ability to monitor, track the usage, performance and network impact of more than 1600 individual applications. This level of granularity is important, as each application has a different impact on the network and can be monitored individually; some applications are more vulnerable to latency and others to packet loss or TCP retransmits.

Polystar’s solutions remove the complexity of detailed signalling information and visualise intelligent data in a simplified and digestible manner. The embedded analytics and troubleshooting tools identify network issues for specific applications, as well as visualising the application performance in the network, right down to an individual subscriber’s experience. The advanced Polystar Network Insights solutions also offer real-time visibility of bandwidth consumption and application utilisation.  This allows operators to monitor and report on IP connectivity performance, accessibility, latency and throughput for specific application categories such as: Web, Audio/Video, IM and Peer-to-Peer, as well as for individual applications such as YouTube, Facebook, Netflix and iTunes.

Thomas Bystedt, Director Network Insight at Polystar comments: “Increased data usage changes the way we need to monitor mobile networks, including how specific applications perform and their impact on the network. The latest advancement from Polystar provides a depth of application performance and bandwidth insights that operators could otherwise not obtain on a network level and offers a rich source of intelligence for planning and management. For example, these insights can be used to identify the bandwidth consumption of new applications and how this affects the performance of the network so that issues can be identified and rectified. Further, the ability to monitor the uptake and bandwidth trends of specific application categories, such as video services, is an invaluable aid for capacity and deployment planning.”
