Building new networks that drive new market growth

Telecoms.com periodically invites expert third parties to share their views on the industry’s most pressing issues. In this piece Francesca Greane, Marketing, Content and Community Lead for 5G World 2020, discusses the future of 5G.

According to a recent market report by Omdia, the difficult truth is that despite the enthusiasm and commitment of many 5G stakeholders, how exactly to profit from 5G is still a puzzle. First there is the issue of where the money will come from.

Operators that have already deployed 5G say that developing a profitable business case is still top of mind. Of course, other challenges listed are non-trivial: 5G devices are required to prime the market, network rollout has proven complex and spectrum availability can be a problem. However, for the majority (55%) of survey respondents, creating a profitable business case is the key challenge when it comes to deploying 5G.

Arguably, none of these issues are unexpected; they are the same uncertainties and worries that appear when any new technology is launched. And yet the stakes are much higher now: the scope of social and economic impact that 5G promises, the diversity of beneficiaries and fierce competitors puts an even heavier load on the shoulders of those making decisions about 5G.

These challenges and more will be discussed in Huawei and the 5G Series’ upcoming webinar: Building 5G Networks that Drive New Market Growth.

On August 12th, expert speakers will delve into topics including:

  • The construction of large-scale 5G networks

  • Experiences from setting up nation-wide 5G

  • Defining the business case and go to market strategies

  • Learning from first 5G go-to-market projects

  • and more…

There will also be a unique opportunity to Q&A our speakers at the end of the webinar, so come ready with your questions!
