Nokia Siemens Networks to improve voice call quality for 3 UK

Nokia Siemens Networks, the telecoms equipment vendor, has revealed that it will be upgrading Hutchinson’s UK’s network, which operates under the brand name 3, to deliver HD Voice calls. The upgrade, the vendor said, will provide 3’s subscribers with improved quality voice calls.

Ofcom to limit UK 4G spectrum auction

UK regulator Ofcom has announced its intention to hold the country’s largest ever single auction for mobile spectrum services in early 2012. In a move likely to be welcomed by 3UK, the regulator has decided to impose strict caps on the amount of spectrum any one bidder can acquire.

O2 switches on 3G900 in London

O2 has staked its claim to be the first UK operator to switch on a 3G network over 900MHz spectrum in London. Taking advantage of recent licensing changes, this latest rollout in London follows on the heels of similar deployments in Birmingham, Leeds and Manchester; the London deployment is expected to deliver a 50 per cent increase in capacity and a 30 per cent increase in speed.
