US mobile chip maker Qualcomm is the subject of two antitrust investigations by the European Commission that will look into possible abusive behaviour in the way it sells its baseband chips.
As has been long mooted, the European Commission has officially announced a Statement of Objections against Google on its comparison shopping service, while also opening a separate formal investigation on Android. Google, predictably, has come out with its view of the matter.
The European Commission has announced that an investigation into content delivery antitrust has failed to find evidence of wrong-doing by internet service providers. Inspections were carried out after concerns were raised about the potential abuse of dominant market positions and violation of EU antitrust regulations.
The European Union’s antitrust regulators have raided the offices of several European mobile operator groups. Deutsche Telekom has confirmed that it was one of the firms raided, while Orange and Telefonica were reportedly targeted as well. The operators are suspected of abusing their dominant position in the market.
Spain’s antitrust regulator, the National Commission Competition (CNC) has taken disciplinary action against Telefónica, Vodafone and Orange, accusing the operators of abusing their dominant positions.
