ATOM to spend big on Myanmar 5G launch

Chip manufacturer Intel is teaming up with Google to ensure that future releases of the Android operating system are optimised for Intel’s Atom processors. Intel said that it wants to step up its efforts in the lucrative smartphone arena at the opening keynote of the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco.
The tech industry shows further signs of a turnaround as US chip giant Intel reported its best ever quarter, with revenues rising 34 per cent year on year to reach $10.8bn in the second quarter of 2010. Net income for the same period was up 175 per cent year on year to $2.9bn.
US chip vendor Intel has confirmed its designs on the burgeoning smartphone space with the unveiling of its latest Atom processor – the Z6xx – formerly known as ‘Moorestown’.
US chip shop Intel recorded a whopping 55 per cent drop in net income for the first quarter of 2009, chalking up $647m against $1.4bn in the same period last year.
