Liberty Belgian subsidiary Telenet acquires BASE from KPN for €1.3 bn

US telco multinational Liberty Global has announced its Telenet Belgian subsidiary is acquiring Belgian mobile network operator BASE Company from Dutch telco KPN for €1.325 billion. Liberty has positioned the acquisition as a “unique opportunity to drive mobile services on attractive financial terms”.

Proximus makes LTE free in Belgium

Belgian carrier Proximus has made LTE access available to all customers at no extra cost, going against the grain of operators charging a premium for the service.

Belgian 800MHz auction raises €360m

Belgium’s three mobile operators, Belgacom, Mobistar and KPN-owned Base have each received 2 x 10MHz of 800MHz spectrum in the country’s latest spectrum auction, at a price of €120m per allocation. There were no other entrants in the auction, which was run by Belgian regulator BIPT.
