Cloud BSS could hold key to centralisation

Although there is widespread industry support for standardised and centralised BSS strategies for mobile operators, fears around operational disruption and cultural and political issues are so pronounced they are perhaps keeping operators from moving to implement such strategies. But a cloud implementation of a single BSS solution could represent a possible solution.

Cloud expectations sky-high for operators

Cloud services will be one of the key revenue generators for operators over the next 24 months, according to data from the Telecoms.com Intelligence Industry Survey 2013, with over 80 per cent of respondents expecting operators to own their own cloud infrastructure within the next two years. Over 90 per cent expect operators to be selling cloud services within the same time frame.

Orange Digital moves to Amazon cloud

Citing its previous infrastructure as being expensive to run and time consuming to maintain Orange Digital, which manages the online portals for EE, has moved to Amazon Web Services (AWS). The firm claims that by moving to Amazon’s cloud, it is better able to support spikes in traffic and capacity and reduce costs by £2m over a three-year period.

Orange looks to revitalise video conferencing

Orange Business Services, the France Telecom owned brand, has announced the latest attempt to revitalise video conferencing, saying that conditions were now right for the technology to succeed. At a press event that connected London, Paris and Beijing through its cloud-based video conferencing solution Telepresence Pass, the chief executive for Orange Business Services, Vivek Badrinath, said that a crucial difference of over previous iterations of the technology was that it was cloud-based enabling it to be fully managed by Orange.

Mobile operators should capitalise on cloud, says research firm

The opportunities for wireless services providers to offer cloud services are vast, according to new research. While traditional IT vendors, such as Google, Dell, Amazon and Microsoft dominate the cloud computing market, mobile operators have competitive advantages over these players, according to Market intelligence provider IHS iSuppli.

Telcordia opens OSS platform up to the cloud

Operational Support Systems (OSS) are one of the most complicated and critical functions an operator will deploy, having as it does, a major effect on the company’s agility. On Thursday software vendor Telcordia unveiled an offering which gives integrator partners cloud-based access to its OSS portfolio.
