UK government aims to be leading EU broadband nation by 2015

UK minister for culture, communications and the creative industries Ed Vaizey has pledged to ensure the UK becomes the leading European nation in terms of speed and penetration of fibre-based broadband services by 2015. Speaking at Chinese vendor Huawei’s Broadband Forum event in London today, the MP said that the UK has the most ambitious plan for broadband services of any European nation.

UK Government has “lost the plot” over LTE

The UK Government’s decision not to facilitate the deployment of LTE until 2013 at the earliest is “appalling” and has forced the UK to surrender its position as one of the leading communication markets in the world. This is the judgement of a C-level executive from one of the UK network operators, who asked not to be named.

UK government to release publicly held spectrum

UK Communications Minister, Ed Vaizey, has outlined proposals that will see the country releasing yet more radio spectrum by 2020. The announcement follows finalisation of plans to hold an auction for LTE band early next year.
