Twitter Audio cards set to shake up mobile music

Twitter and SoundCloud have teamed up to bring music to tweeters through Audio Cards, a feature that allows streaming audio and podcasts to the social network’s Android and iOS apps. The app, which is already present in iTunes and SoundCloud, works by a single tap and listeners can continue to use Twitter while streaming.

O2 launches iTunes Codes for carrier billing

O2 has launched iTunes Codes, which allows customers to purchase iTunes credit automatically charged to their monthly phone bill, or taken out of pre-paid credit. The codes are usable for purchases across the iTunes, App and Mac App Stores, as well as for iBooks.

Google in spat with Taiwanese government

Taiwan’s Taipei City Government has accused Google of attempting “to hold Taiwan’s consumers hostage, in exchange for the privilege of refusing to follow Taiwanese law.” The accusation arises from a dispute between Google and Taiwanese regulators that has resulted in the suspension of all paid-for applications in the Android market in that country.

Yahoo acquires mobile TV-tagging start up

Yahoo has acquired TV tagging start-up IntoNow in a deal reported to be worth between $20-30m. The purchase is expected to bolster the firm’s video and social content offerings. IntoNow, which only launched at the end of January this year, has developed a free iPhone application that allows users to share instantly the programmes they are watching with Facebook and Twitter friends as well as iTunes and Netflix. The expectation is that an Android version of the application will now be developed.

Google acquires mobile music synch platform PushLife

Rumours that Google is planning to launch an iTunes rival optimised for Android will no doubt be further fuelled by its acquisition of Canadian start-up PushLife. Founded by former Research in Motion employee, Ray Reddy, in 2008, PushLife offers software that allows users to synch non-Apple devices with the iTunes platform.

Motorola, HTC in the hunt to be Android’s answer to iTunes

At a time when speculation that both Google and Apple are preparing to launch cloud-based music services is rife, Motorola Mobility Ventures has announced the investment of an unspecified sum into Catch Media, a cloud-based content delivery service that last year, was rumoured to be part of Google’s plans to take on Apple in the online music space.
