WiMAX 2 shows off 330Mbps bandwidth in Japan

Japanese mobile WiMAX player UQ Communications and vendor Samsung have published the results of a trial WiMAX 2 802.16m system, which achieved network speeds of 330Mbps.

DoCoMo picks up rest of PacketVideo

Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo said Monday it has acquired the remaining 65 per cent of multimedia software firm PacketVideo that it did not already own. The move takes PacketVideo out of the hands of US wireless broadband vendor NextWave Wireless and makes it a wholly owned DoCoMo subsidiary.

DoCoMo prepares for LTE rollout

Leading Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo said Thursday it is laying the foundations for its LTE deployment by rolling out new WCDMA base stations that will be compatible with the 4G technology.

UQ: WiMAX trials to start this month

UQ Communications, a 2.5GHz licence holder in Japan, and which counts Intel and Samsung among its investors, has announced it will start trials of its mobile WiMAX service on 26 February. The trial will continue until 30 June this year.

Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo had teamed up with electronics manufacturers Fujitsu and Sharp and semiconductor firm Renesas Technology to co develop and HSUPA platform.
