LightSquared bags Leap, Best Buy as customers

Sanjiv Ahuja, the head honcho at US network newcomer LightSquared, has confirmed two new customers for the company’s wholesale 4G offering. During his keynote speech at CTIA on Wednesday, Ahuja outed Leap Wireless and Best Buy as two of its buyers.

Sanjiv Ahuja, the chief of forthcoming US wholesale carrier Lightsquared, has sent a letter to the country’s communications authority addressing concerns that the LTE and satellite-based network may interfere with GPS services. Ahuja is seeking to assure the FCC that “there will be no interference,” in order to keep its rollout plans on track.

Hopeful US market debutante Lightsquared, which is aiming to deploy a combination of LTE and Satellite wireless services on a purely wholesale basis, faces an obstacle to deployment as a number of US governmental agencies have aired concerns that the modification of its licence to allow for terrestrial as well as satellite offerings will cause interference with existing services.
