Tigo converges OTT services with billing systems

Millicom, the Latin American and African telco, has confirmed a content distribution partnership with Dutch media solutions vendor Momac. The agreement will see Tigo, Millicom’s Latin American subsidiary, bundle together its wide range of data packages alongside various third party apps.

Millicom reports 15% revenue growth for 2014

Emerging markets-focused operator and media service group Millicom has reported its 2014 financial results showing 14.9% revenue growth for the year, largely attributed to its expansion across the Latin American market.

Ericsson, Millicom partner on Tigo Cash for West Africa

Ericsson has announced its Wallet Platform has been deployed by Millicom-owned Tigo Senegal to offer financial services to customers across West Africa. Tigo Cash mobile services allow subscribers to make payments, store, transfer and withdraw money using a mobile device, even if the user doesn’t have access to traditional banking services.

Millicom brings LTE to Bolivia

Developing markets operator Millicom, which operates under the Tigo brand in Bolivia, said that it has launched a 4G LTE offering in the country, delivering high speed internet at up to 100Mbps.

Free Facebook comes to Tigo Tanzania

Developing markets operator Millicom said Thursday that Tigo customers in Tanzania will be the first consumers in East Africa to get free access to Facebook on their mobile handsets. On the back of a similar service which launched in Latin America in December 2013, Millicom and Facebook have now extended the partnership to East Africa.

Tigo aims to exploit gaming opportunity

Gaming presents a valuable revenue source for mobile operators, as Eidos chief Ian Livingstone explained at Broadband World Forum in October. One such firm, global operator group Millicom International Cellular, under its Tigo brand, is aiming to grasp the opportunity by inking a deal with mobile games service provider and publisher Thumbstar Games. The deal covers various countries in Latin America as well as Africa.

Millicom offloads Colombian towers

Developing markets operator Millicom International Cellular, said Monday that its Colombian subsidiary had agreed to sell 2,126 cell towers to America Tower for $182m in cash.
