Mobile video volume on LTE already 5x greater than 3G

A report commissioned by analytics vendor Citrix has revealed the extent of LTE-based video streaming growth. The report focuses on the consumption of LTE-based services among global tier 1 operators; and concludes LTE is already generating five times greater data volume than 3G at operators that offer both.

Alcatel Lucent opens a Bell Lab in Cambridge

Networking innovator Alcatel Lucent has announced the opening of a new ‘antenna’ (i.e. small) office of its Bell Labs R&D arm in Cambridge. The role of antenna offices is to focus on one major industry issue, in this case realtime cloud video delivery.

Ericsson and Telstra in LTE Broadcast trial

Australia’s leading telecoms operator Telstra has signed an extension of its partnership with Swedish vendor Ericsson that will see the two collaborate on the expansion of Telstra’s LTE network. In a briefing at Mobile World Congress on Monday the firms’ CEOs, David Thodey and Hans Vestberg signed a three-year expansion contract that Thodey described as “another multi-billion dollar deal”.
