Etisalat funds Maroc Telecom takeover

French conglomerate Vivendi looks set to continue its offloading of telecom interests after Emirates-based Etisalat announced that it has secured funding to buy the French firm out of Maroc Telecom. Etisalat signed a share purchase agreement for the acquisition of Vivendi’s 53 per cent stake in the Moroccan operator back in November.

Etisalat to win control of Maroc Telecom

The struggle for control of Maroc Telecom, which has been rolling on since the start of the year, looks to be at an end. Emirates-based Etisalat signed a €3.9bn deal to acquire a controlling stake on Tuesday.

France Telecom buys 40% of Meditel

A consortium including Fipar-Holding (CDG group), FinanceCom and France Telecom have signed a memorandum of understanding with a view to France Telecom acquiring a 40 per cent share of Moroccan operator Medi Telecom for €640m. The closing of the agreement requires approval of the Moroccan regulatory body (ANRT), expected to take place by the end of 2010.

Telefonica, Portugal Telecom exit Morocco

Spanish carrier Telefonica and Portugal Telecom said this week that they have jointly sold their controlling holding in Moroccan operator Medi Telecom to the other local partners in the company for €800m in cash.

Zain sets sights on Morocco

Kuwaiti carrier Zain has teamed up with an investment fund to acquire 31 per cent of Moroccan operator Wana.
