Hardware manufacturer HP has been making waves at CES, taking place in Las Vegas this week, with the unveiling of an Android-based smartbook and a Windows 7-based slate device.
As the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) prepares to kick off in Las Vegas, electronics manufacturer Lenovo is making a further foray into the mobile space with the first ARM-based ‘smartbook’ device powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform.
Nokia’s foray into the laptop space will start next month when the Booklet 3G launches in Europe, to be followed in November by its US debut.
US chip shop Broadcom is thought to be following rivals Qualcomm and Intel into the netbook or Mobile Internet Devices (MID) space, after it licensed ARM’s Cortex A9 multicore processor this week.
Finnish mobile handset vendor Nokia confirmed expectations Monday with the launch of its first netbook product, the Booklet 3G.
US software firm Sun Microsystems has been making its presence felt in the mobile space of late, most recently announcing the porting of its Java platform to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon ARM-based processor.
Orange is targeting the home market with the launch in June of a new touchscreen tablet called the Tabbee. The Wifi-only device offers quick access to multimedia or internet content held on either a home’s set-top box or its PC.
