Tunisiana using Facebook to drive mobile data uptake

The Tunisian subsidiary of Qatari operator group Ooredoo, Tunisiana, believes it has found a way to entice users in emerging markets into increasing their reliance on mobile data services. The operator said it saw the popularity of social networking site Facebook on fixed line networks in the country, and devised a tariff to cater to mobile users.

Ooredoo switches on LTE in Qatar

Qatari consumers can now begin enjoying 4G services, as the country’s incumbent operator Ooredoo announced the launch of its LTE network. Ooredoo’s 4G service will initially be available via mifi and dongle devices, and the operator is currently working on making 4G available on smartphones in Qatar.

Ooredoo announces Q4 rise in profit

Qatar based Ooredoo, the operator formerly known as QTel, has announced its fourth quarter revenues rose by 6.2 per cent to reach QAR8.71bn ($2.4bn). Net profit also increased by 14.6 per cent to QAR523m.
