Vodafone optimistic on strong demand for data

UK operator giant Vodafone was keen to highlight its steady progress when announcing its latest quarterly and full year earnings, focusing on organic growth, investment and untapped market potential.

Profits plummet at Nokia Networks

Finnish telco Nokia’s Q1 2015 earnings report revealed a dramatic decline in profits from its core networking operations. While Nokia Networks revenues were up 15% year-on-year, operating profit was down a massive 61%, with the Mobile Broadband division registering a loss of €3 million.

Global smartphone market Q1 2015 – Samsung top but Xiaomi could be third

Samsung announced its quarterly earnings overnight and Strategy Analytics wasted little time in publishing its initial global smartphone vendor share numbers. They revealed Samsung has reclaimed the number one spot outright, but with a diminished share compared to the same quarter a year ago.

Chinese mass market iPhone adoption drives strong Apple quarter

US tech giant Apple continued to ride the popularity of its new iPhone 6 models to another very strong quarter. Apple sold 61.2 million iPhones globally in the March quarter, which was 40% more than the year-ago quarter and generated 55% more revenue, implying improving margins too.

EE talks up Q1 4G and broadband subscriber gains

The UK’s largest mobile operator by subscriber count – EE – has announced Q1 revenues that were broadly flat year-on-year. Within that, however, EE continued the healthy growth of its 4G subscriber base and also added 50,000 broadband subscribers.
