100Gbps submarine cable project gets operator backing

A project to build a 100Gbps, 20,000km long submarine cable system connecting Europe to Singapore has been backed by 15 operators from around the world. Infrastructure vendors NEC and Alcatel-Lucent will be supplying the equipment, with NEC deploying the segment spanning Singapore to Sri Lanka, and Alcatel-Lucent deploying the stretch from Sri Lanka to France.

Saudi Telecom to offload Indonesian unit

Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has entered talks with an as yet unnamed party with a view to selling its Indonesian asset – PT Axis Telekom. STC owns an 80.10 per cent shareholding directly and 3.725 per cent indirectly in Axis.

Saudi Arabia’s STC expands LTE network

STC, the Saudi Arabian carrier, has added anotherLTE coverage to another five cities across the Kingdom, taking the total up to 11. The cities of Makkah, Madinah, Abha, Khamis Mushayt, Dhahran now have access to LTE, in addition to the cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Jubail, Al Khobar, Al Ahsa.
