Sweden to auction 800MHz spectrum in February 2011

The Swedish telecoms regulator, PTS, has set a date for the auction of wireless broadband spectrum in the 800GHz band, making the announcement on the eve of the first anniversary of the commercial introduction of LTE. The auction will begin on February 28th 2011, with interested parties required to apply for participation by the end of January. Nordic carrier TeliaSonera launched the world’s first LTE service in Stockholm and Oslo on December 14th last year.

Tele2 says fixed broadband users will move to LTE

Swedish operator Tele2, which will launch LTE through a joint venture with Telenor called Net4Mobility, has announced the results of a survey showing that up to a third of DSL customers will move to LTE once the service is commercially available. Tele2 plans to launch services by the end of 2010 in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo and Karlskrona.

Tele2 finds new leader at Ericsson

Swedish carrier Tele2 on Monday appointed Mats Granryd as president and CEO, effective September 1. Granryd replaces former chief Harri Koponen, who walked out citing “irreconcilable differences” with the company in February.

Ericsson stalls Huawei’s move into Sweden

It was a win for the old school on Wednesday when Nordic carrier TeliaSonera announced Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) as its suppliers of LTE equipment. The news was particularly good for Swedish vendor Ericsson, which had been faced with the danger of Huawei planting a flag in the Swede’s own back yard.

Sweden: hammer falls on 2.6GHz auction

After 112 bidding rounds over 16 days, the auction of 2.6GHz spectrum in Sweden has came to a close, raising SEK2.1bn ($350m). Intel Capital Corporation was among the five licence winners, acquiring 50MHz (TDD) spectrum for SEK159.2m ($26.5m).
