TeliaSonera bids for Polkomtel

Dominant Nordic telco TeliaSonera has confirmed a bid for Polish operator Polkomtel, joining a rumoured ten other operators (including Spain’s Telefonica and Norway’s Telenor) looking to expand into the area.

Sweden to auction 800MHz spectrum in February 2011

The Swedish telecoms regulator, PTS, has set a date for the auction of wireless broadband spectrum in the 800GHz band, making the announcement on the eve of the first anniversary of the commercial introduction of LTE. The auction will begin on February 28th 2011, with interested parties required to apply for participation by the end of January. Nordic carrier TeliaSonera launched the world’s first LTE service in Stockholm and Oslo on December 14th last year.

TeliaSonera launches 4G in Finland

LTE pioneer TeliaSonera has launched Finland’s first commercial LTE service, in the cities of Turku and Helsinki. The Nordic and Baltic specialist activated the world’s first LTE service in Stockholm and Oslo a year ago.As in the Swedish and Norwegian deployments, service will be limited to dongle-enabled laptop access, with Korean vendor Samsung supplying the dongles.

No difference between vendors’ LTE solutions says TeliaSonera

In a development that may give infrastructure suppliers cause for concern, it has emerged that 4G pioneer TeliaSonera selected its LTE vendor partners exclusively on price, having found nothing to distinguish them from one another within the technical performance of their products.

TeliaSonera reports growth in Q1 profit

TeliaSonera, which became the world’s first commercial LTE operator at the end of 2009, has reported a six per cent increase year on year for first quarter profit. The firm recorded net income for January to March of SEK4.72bn (€489m), compared to SEK4.44bn for the first quarter of 2009.

Spotify comes to TV in second deal in Nordics

Spotify, the darling of the online music market, has expanded its presence in the Nordics through an exclusive deal with Finnish carrier TeliaSonera that will see the Spotify service deployed on a number of devices from mobile phones to TVs.

Ericsson stalls Huawei’s move into Sweden

Ericsson, TeliaSonera launch ‘commercial’ LTE site
